A study by the Hacettepe University in Turkey found that an eight-week mindfulness meditation program reduced the patients’ fear of physical movement, a phobia that limits their daily activities due to concerns of prompting another heart attack. Patients were given instructions to spend 15 minutes daily focusing on their breathing and awareness of the present moment in a comfortable chair with their backs straight and eyes closed. Those who completed the eight-week program experienced less fear of movement and an improved quality of life.

According to study author Dr. Canan Karadaş, the findings suggest that mindfulness meditation replaces catastrophic thinking with positive thoughts and thus could be useful in heart patient’s rehabilitation.

Thank you, Dr. Canan Karadaş, for your insightful study. May more people discover the benefits of meditation and lead happier, fulfilling lives, in Heaven’s guidance.
