More recently, Deb had another experience that finally prompted her to write the book, “Beyond Hope,” and thus raise awareness about the critical condition of our planet. “I had a prompt when I was living out in British Columbia (Canada) in 2016. I started having premonitions. That’s what I’m calling them. But I had really vivid dreams, and these vivid dreams were all about the death of the ocean. And I had no control over this. And I could not negate the truth in that deep feeling that just kept surfacing over and over and over again. And that was what prompted the book; that was what prompted me to finally write this deeper truth.” “This is what I write about a lot in ‘Beyond Hope’ is that we as a collective species have chosen to live what I call a “big lie.” We’re not connected to our inner selves. So that has separated us from the natural world and from animals, from each other. And it just has rolled into, spiraled into this consumptive world that has created so many environmental disasters.” During 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic caused untold suffering and chaos around the globe. Is this pandemic trying to send a message to humanity? “So there’re a lot of messages in this, the way I see it. There’s the message that, well, it’s a zoonotic disease; maybe we should stop eating animals. And the other one is, we need to slow down. We need to start looking at ourselves and our habits, because if the earth can heal that quickly just with us stopping, what can we do if we actually changed our ways entirely?” “I chose to follow a path of caring and kindness and compassion. And that has led me on this path of choosing veganism and choosing to live very simply and choosing to live in a way that’s outspoken for what I care about, in a way that’s not confrontational, but in a way that just inspires critical thought. Be Veg, Go Green to Save the Planet.”
